When did being busy get so busy? When did learning, growing, and refining become a thing of immensive activity? How do we look at all this as a good thing? We sit through seminars and conferences and even Sunday morning worship and through our crowds and fellowship just want to grow. Now, i love and appreciate fellowship amongst people as much as the next guy. It is vital and we can learn a lot when we come together and sit amongst the saints. But there are just some things i will never learn in the company of people.
Just before Jesus goes to feed the thousands of hungry people, who goes off with the disciples up to a secluded spot in the mountains. It seems in religious activity today, our progression is group teaching into action. After a good sermon, we are left with the benediction of, “Now go out and DO.” I think Jesus’ true benediction for us would be, “Now go home and REFLECT,” but good luck finding that often in church. It is in true inactivity that we wait in silence and patience until we are charged with the Spirit. In doing this, we can in turn make our activity count for so much more because we have been truly prepared by God to do it.
